We are currently representing an international oil trading firm, seeking a skilled and experienced Freight Risk Manager to join their team. The Freight Risk Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of freight risk associated with the firm's shipping operations, which include both owned vessels and third-party trading activities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the shipping industry, freight markets, and risk management principles, along with excellent analytical and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies to manage freight risk exposure across the firm's shipping operations, including both owned vessels and third-party trading activities.
- Monitor freight market trends, including charter rates, vessel availability, and geopolitical factors, to assess potential risks and opportunities.
- Analyze and forecast freight rates and related costs to support decision-making in chartering, trading, and logistics operations.
- Collaborate with the chartering and trading teams to optimize vessel deployment, minimize freight costs, and maximize revenue opportunities.
- Evaluate and manage counterparty risk associated with charter parties, freight contracts, and shipping agreements.
- Develop and maintain risk models, metrics, and tools to assess and mitigate freight risk exposure.
- Provide regular reports and analysis on freight risk metrics, performance, and market trends to senior management and stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, including shipowners, brokers, and industry organizations, to stay abreast of market developments and best practices.
- Participate in contract negotiations, ensuring that freight risk considerations are adequately addressed and reflected in agreements.
- Support the development and implementation of risk management policies, procedures, and controls related to freight risk.
