Senior Freight/Commodities Analyst

We are representing a leading hedge fund in the shipping and commodities sector, with a focus on trading freight derivatives. They are currently seeking an experienced Shipping/Commodities Analyst to join their team in London/Dubai. They are open to both fundamental and data analysts. Relocation to Dubai will be required later this year.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of shipping and commodities markets, including dry bulk and container shipping sectors.
  • Analyze data and trends to identify investment opportunities in the freight derivatives market.
  • Develop and implement trading strategies to optimize investment performance and manage risk.
  • Work closely with traders and portfolio managers to identify market trends and execute trades.
  • Maintain relationships with industry contacts to stay abreast of market developments.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and refine trading models.
  • Conduct market and competitor analysis to identify potential areas of growth for the fund.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or related field. If data analyst must have PhD in relevant field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the shipping or commodities sectors, preferably in a trading or analytical role.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with experience analyzing large data sets.
  • Knowledge of the dry bulk or container shipping markets, including key players, trends, and regulations.
  • Familiarity with freight derivatives and trading platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python or R is a plus.
