The Accountant will play a key role in supporting the firm’s trading, chartering and vessel operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, trade accounting, and cost control across voyages and periods. The role sits close to the commercial teams and requires a strong understanding of shipping P&L, voyage economics and freight-related accounting.

Key Responsibilities

Trade & Voyage Accounting

  • Record and reconcile voyage results, including freight income, demurrage, despatch, and voyage costs

  • Prepare and maintain voyage P&L statements for spot, TC and COA trades

  • Monitor accruals and provisions for open voyages and period charters

  • Support freight invoice validation and settlement

Chartering & Operations Support

  • Work closely with chartering and operations teams to ensure accurate cost allocation

  • Track hire, bunkers, port costs, canal dues, agency fees and claims

  • Assist with bunker inventory and pricing reconciliation

  • Support claims accounting, including off-hire, performance and CP-related adjustments

Financial Reporting & Controls

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and variance analysis

  • Support month-end and year-end close processes

  • Assist with cash flow forecasting and working capital management

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies and audit requirements

Counterparty & Cash Management

  • Reconcile broker, agent and counterparty statements

  • Monitor receivables and payables related to trading and shipping activity

  • Support credit control and follow-up on outstanding balances

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Maintain accurate records within trading / shipping systems (e.g. IMOS, Dataloy or equivalent)

  • Identify process improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency
