We are partnering with an international commodities trading group with a strong presence across dry bulk, energy, and industrial raw materials. As part of their continued growth in the Middle East, the firm is looking to appoint an experienced Shipping Operator to support their Capesize freight and cargo operations from their Dubai office.

Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end operational management of Capesize vessels, ensuring smooth execution of voyages across key global trade routes.
This role sits at the centre of the shipping, trading, and operations workflow and requires a proactive operator who can manage multiple voyages, resolve operational issues, and work closely with charterers, owners, masters, and commercial teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage voyage execution for Capesize vessels, ensuring full compliance with contractual terms and commercial requirements.

  • Coordinate with shipowners, masters, agents, port authorities, surveyors, and inspection companies across global load/discharge ports.

  • Prepare and manage voyage instructions, port call requirements, cargo documentation, NOR, SOF, and all operational paperwork.

  • Monitor vessel performance and schedules, including bunkers, ETA/ETD, weather delays, and deviation risks.

  • Handle laytime calculations and demurrage/dispatch claims, liaising with relevant stakeholders to reconcile and close files.

  • Support traders and charterers with operational insights, cargo readiness updates, and market intelligence that may impact freight or voyage economics.

  • Maintain close coordination with internal teams (trading, risk, finance, and operations) to ensure timely invoicing, compliance, and accurate reporting.

  • Troubleshoot operational issues promptly, ensuring minimal cost exposure and optimal voyage execution.

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in dry bulk shipping operations, with solid exposure to Capesize vessels (Supramax/Panamax experience beneficial).

  • Strong understanding of voyage operations, laytime/demurrage, charter party terms, and port/terminal procedures.

  • Experience interacting with shipowners, agents, surveyors, and other operational stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple voyages simultaneously in a fast-paced, commercial environment.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with high attention to detail and problem-solving capability.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with shipping or voyage management systems advantageous.

  • Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.

  • Based in Dubai.
