Position Overview
The Demurrage Analyst is responsible for the timely calculation, negotiation, and settlement of demurrage and related claims arising from global physical commodity shipments. This role ensures accurate cost recovery, protects commercial margins, and supports the trading desk by providing clear analysis of contractual terms, operational issues, and exposure risks.
Key Responsibilities

Review contracts, charter parties, and sale/purchase agreements to identify and track all demurrage-related terms and obligations.

Calculate demurrage and despatch claims for vessels, barges, and terminals in accordance with contract terms and industry standards.

Prepare, submit, and negotiate claims with counterparties, shipowners, and brokers to achieve optimal recovery and minimize losses.

Maintain accurate records and reports of all claims, settlements, and outstanding disputes for internal stakeholders.

Analyze operational delays (loading, discharge, customs, weather, mechanical issues) and provide root cause assessments to improve future performance.

Collaborate closely with trading, operations, scheduling, and legal teams to clarify contractual rights and strengthen claim positions.

Monitor and interpret market trends, port conditions, and freight developments to support proactive risk management.

Identify opportunities for process improvements to reduce exposure and enhance efficiency in demurrage management.
