The Fertiliser Trader will be responsible for developing and managing a global fertiliser trading book across key nutrient products (urea, DAP/MAP, potash, ammonia, phosphates, NPK, etc.). Leveraging the company’s integrated shipping and agri trading platforms, the role focuses on origination, physical trading, freight optimisation, and risk management to drive profitability and expand market share.

Key Responsibilities

  • Physical Trading & Origination

    • Source, negotiate, and execute physical fertiliser trades (spot, term, and structured) across global markets.

    • Build and maintain relationships with producers, distributors, blenders, cooperatives, and end-users.

    • Identify and develop new markets, trade flows, and cross-commodity opportunities (e.g., ammonia, agri inputs).

  • Freight & Logistics Optimisation

    • Utilise the company’s in-house shipping arm to optimise freight exposure and secure competitive rates.

    • Oversee chartering, laycan management, vessel nomination, and demurrage to ensure seamless execution.

    • Coordinate closely with operators to manage supply chain risks, timing, and cost efficiency.

  • Risk Management & P&L

    • Manage price risk through derivatives, swaps, or back-to-back hedging.

    • Monitor exposure limits, mark-to-market, and ensure compliance with risk policies.

    • Generate and present regular P&L reports with clear market commentary.

  • Market Intelligence & Strategy

    • Analyse supply/demand fundamentals, seasonal patterns, freight movements, and competitor activity.

    • Leverage agri trading insights to align fertiliser trading strategies with broader commodity flows.

    • Provide forward market views and trading recommendations to senior management.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Work with shipping, finance, credit, and operations teams to ensure efficient trade execution.

    • Support financing structures (LCs, prepayments) and manage credit risk with counterparties.

    • Contribute to budgeting, business development, and strategic planning.
