Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Strategy

  • Develop and execute the company’s regional growth strategy in Southeast Asia in line with global objectives.

  • Identify and evaluate new trading opportunities across commodities, including procurement, sales, new trade nodes, and alternative trade structures.

  • Originate and assess investment opportunities, including mining assets, joint ventures, offtake agreements, and greenfield developments.

  • Lead and conclude commercial negotiations with local partners, suppliers, customers, and counterparties.

Government & External Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government bodies, regulators, industry associations, and key stakeholders.

  • Manage all licensing, permitting, compliance and regulatory interactions at the local level.

  • Monitor political and policy developments and proactively mitigate associated risks.

  • Represent the company at industry events and public forums, strengthening brand presence and credibility.

Operations, Risk & Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure local operations comply with all applicable laws, regulations, environmental standards, and HSE requirements.

  • Implement and enforce corporate risk management and governance frameworks locally.

  • Identify and manage operational, community, compliance and political risks.

Team & Platform Development

  • Support the recruitment, development and leadership of a local team as the platform scales.

  • Foster a high-performance, ethical and collaborative working culture.

  • Coordinate closely with regional and global functional teams (trading, finance, legal, risk, logistics).


Candidate Profile

Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in commodity trading, preferably metals (e.g. nickel, copper, aluminium, tin).
    Exposure to agricultural commodities is also acceptable.

  • Strong understanding of the full value chain from exploration and mining through processing, logistics and trading.

  • Hands-on experience in Southeast Asia, ideally Indonesia or Malaysia; experience in nearby markets (Philippines, Vietnam) also relevant.

  • Proven track record in origination, negotiation and deal execution (JV, offtake, commercial agreements).

Network & Market Knowledge

  • Deep familiarity with the local political, legal and business environment.

  • Established network across government bodies, industry participants and commercial partners.

  • Ability to navigate permitting, regulatory approvals and stakeholder engagement independently.
