Oil Products Market Analyst

We are seeking a highly skilled Market Analyst to provide crucial support to our clients Oil Desk through the application of analytics, fundamental analysis, and trade ideas. As the Market Analyst, you will report directly to the Head of Market Analytics and collaborate closely with their team of traders.

*Minimum 5 years experience as a fundamental analyst at an oil trading firm covering crude or products*

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct in-depth analytics to enhance the trading desk's understanding of market fundamentals, encompassing past, present, and future trends.
  2. Consistently offer profitable trading recommendations based on your expert assessment of Crude oil products' fundamentals and market pricing opportunities.
  3. Ensure the regular and active maintenance of crude oil products balances for major regions and countries, presenting comprehensive reports and Tableau dashboards to LME traders.
  4. Employ comprehensive balance component modelling, incorporating the latest price sensitivity and fundamental factors, including significant market events or changes.
  5. Generate and assess various forward-looking fundamental scenarios, presenting expected price equilibriums corresponding to each scenario.
  6. Manage and organize detailed price and fundamental data, extracting relevant insights and communicating their implications to traders and fellow analysts.
  7. Ensure the integrity of data for each balance component through regular checks and reconciliation with internal and external data sources.
  8. Prepare and store extensive internally-generated balance data and curated fundamentals data from external sources in our internal databases on a daily basis.
  9. Track and forecast movements of crude oil products, including different grades, and integrate findings into reported regional balances through regular reports.
  10. Develop and maintain a range of tools, dashboards, and reports for the trading group, utilizing SQL and various external APIs, including Python scripts.
  11. Provide prompt and expert responses to trader requests for ad-hoc fundamental oil market analysis, including event analytics.
  12. Formulate and effectively communicate comprehensive and insightful views on the relationships between various market prices and fundamentals, contributing ideas to proposed desk traded positions.

Requirements:

• Demonstrated experience of at least 5 years in oil market analysis, with a proven track record in oil supply and demand models.

• Comprehensive knowledge of crude oil products across global markets. • Previous analytical role in a prominent international Oil Company or Financial institution.

• Expertise in oil market dynamics, analytical skills, and refining knowledge.

• Solid understanding of common oil logistics challenges, such as segregation, layering, and in-line blending, as well as price setting mechanisms and derivatives markets.

• Proficiency in IT skills, including standard applications, operating systems, databases, Excel (VBA & Programming), SQL, Tableau, and Python.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate analytical findings into trading language.
