We are seeking an experienced Origination Manager to lead and expand our client's refined products origination activities across China. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and structuring trading opportunities, building strong relationships with key counterparties, and supporting the trading desk with market intelligence and deal flow. This role requires a deep understanding of the Chinese refined products market, regulatory frameworks, and commercial trading dynamics.


Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Origination

  • Identify, develop, and execute refined products trading opportunities in China, including gasoline, gasoil, jet fuel, naphtha, and fuel oil.

  • Source new counterparties (refiners, NOCs, independents, trading companies, distributors) and maintain strong long-term relationships.

  • Originate structured deals (term contracts, prepayments, supply agreements, storage & logistics solutions) aligned with trading strategy.

  • Support traders by generating new flows and identifying arbitrage opportunities within and outside China.

Market Intelligence & Analysis

  • Provide the trading team with insights into Chinese supply/demand fundamentals, refinery economics, import/export flows, and government policies.

  • Monitor competitor activity, pricing trends, and regulatory changes impacting refined products trade in China.

  • Contribute to the development of the firm’s regional strategy in refined products.

Deal Execution & Risk Management

  • Negotiate commercial terms with counterparties in collaboration with legal, credit, and operations teams.

  • Ensure compliance with internal risk policies and Chinese regulatory requirements.

  • Work closely with finance and operations teams to ensure smooth execution of transactions.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and manage strong relationships with local refiners, oil majors, state-owned enterprises, independent refiners (“teapots”), and logistics providers.

  • Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and meetings with regulators where required.
